Osteoporosis Treatment

Osteoporosis can be prevented with care and regular check-ups.
Osteoporosis means "porous bones".  Bones become brittle and weak when calcium, phosphorus and other minerals are depleted in the bones and this causes an increased fracture risk.  In women, menopause is a factor in the development of osteoporosis because of a decline in estrogen, which helps keep calcium in the bones.  Vitamin D is important for the absorption and retention of calcium from food.  Low vitamin D increases the risk of developing osteoporosis.
